William Christopher is best known as the spiritual advisor Father Francis Mulcahy on M*A*SH and Lester Hummel on Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.

His career has spanned stage, screen and TV. Christopher’s early years on stage brought him to Broadway with Beyond The Fringe a British revue. He left the East Coast for Hollywood to pursue a television career. His early TV roles included The Big Death Valley, Andy Griffith, and Good Times. He had recurring roles on Hogan’s Heroes, That Girl and The Love Boat.

Christopher’s film career included The Fortune Cookie, The Shakiest Gun in the West, With Six You Get Eggroll and Hearts of the West. Interesting to note, Christopher starred with Jamie Farr in With Six You Get Eggroll, 5 years prior to working together in M*A*S*H. He had parts in telefilms such as The Perils of Pauline, and For The Love Of It.

Christopher has also remained active in the theater, including a tour of the U.S. in the mid-90s with Jamie Farr doing Neil Simon's The Odd Couple on stage. In 2008-09, he toured with Church Basement Ladies.

The National Autistic Society is close to Christopher’s heart. His son Ned has autism. Christopher and his wife of 59 years wrote the book Mixed Blessings about their experiencing raising Ned.
